Inverton Base – Keeping the world safe, one monster at a time.

Monsters are real. Magic is real. Most people never learn that, and the few who do generally wish they hadn’t.

There’s another world running alongside this one, half-hidden in the cracks of ordinary life. It’s older than us, older than history, and full of things shaped by forces human beings were never really meant to understand. They slip through, sometimes. They always have. They always will. All anyone can do is hold back the dangerous ones.

Cut into the Scottish Highlands, Inverton base is older than memory. It predates the fight. It was once an unwilling part of something bigger: a global organisation built to keep back incursions from a place its members called Halloween. That ended the way these things usually do, with ideology, infighting, and a split over whether the monsters are really an enemy at all.

Inverton came out of that wreckage. Independent by necessity as much as choice.

In the aftermath, its founders turned to old gods who had their own reasons to strive for something different. The arrangement worked, more or less. The price was a power that doesn’t always behave and a force nobody fully understands.

Deep below the base, an ancient stone circle artefact keeps the whole place running. Most hunters don’t know exactly what it is.

The people who end up here are a bit different than those the old organisation wanted. Less military, more oddball, different in their own ways, many were the people the HQ didn’t want, either too weird or dangerous for the main organisation to want to babysit them.

The work is brutal and dangerous. The interpersonal politics are worse. Life at Inverton is better than it used to be on “The Island”, which is a very low bar.

But for many, it’s home.

Because one thing has never changed: once you’re in, you’re in for life. There is no retirement. There’s no normal life waiting for you somewhere down the line. No clean way back out.
